| 一个螺旋形的空间－－从地面到顶部－－请观众进入并环饶着走到中心。在这个过程中空气的温度从凉快的16度涨到受不了的40度。两台空调，一个冷的藏在入口，一个热的藏在中心，把这个气温的过渡做出来。在螺旋的内墙上挂着八台小电视机。每台重复地显示短短的一句话。快速地，一个一个字连着显示又消失，只有一个认真观看的观众才能跟上字句显示的速度。可是，观众虽然看懂了意思，但是也不能肯定。这些句子是八个谎言。是那些我们常用来骗自己的。从入口开始到中间它们的意思越来越深刻的， 就像温度一样越来越难接受。

自我欺骗的精神动力之惑
一般认为,故意的行为是出于自己知道自己在做什么.
既然如此，并且如果欺骗是故意之为，那么自我欺骗就是明知故犯。
而自我欺骗所以成立,必须要在知道某件事情是错的情况下，还尝试让自己相信。
这种认识怎能不阻止欺骗自己的想法呢？
无法想象当被骗的人知道另一个人在欺骗他时,还会上当.
那么更无法理解当欺骗者和受骗者是同一个人时,骗局仍然可以如此轻易地得逞。
那么如何才能成功呢？

| A spiral structure, reaching from floor to ceiling, invites the spectator to enter and walk in circles until reaching the center. While walking the air-temperature will grow from a chilling 16oC to unbearable 40oC. Two air-conditioners, one for cold and one for hot, hidden at the entrance and the center of the spiral, produce this unnatural climate. Small TV-screens are distributed, hanging along the spiral's wall. Each of the 8 screens is repeatedly showing a short phrase. A successions of words, rapidly appearing and disappearing - just so that an attentive viewer can grasp the meaning. You've read it, but you're never sure you really have. These phrases are lies. The kind of lies, that we tell ourselves. Starting from outside their meaning gets more and more indiscreet and unbearable as we close in on the center, where the temperature as-well has become unbearable.
A puzzle about the dynamics of self-deception:
It is often held that doing something intentionally entails doing it knowingly.
If that is so, and if deceiving is an intentional activity, then one who deceives oneself does so knowingly.
But knowingly deceiving one into believing something would require knowing that what one is getting oneself to believe is false.
How can that knowledge fail to undermine the very project of deceiving oneself?
It is hard to imagine how one person can deceive another into believing something, if the latter person knows exactly what the former is up to.
And it is difficult to see how the trick can be any easier when the intending deceiver and the intended victim are the same person.
How can one succeed?
